Józef Andrzej Gierowski

Józef Andrzej Gierowski (1922-2006), was a Polish historian, professor and rector of the Jagiellonian University.

Soldier of Armia Krajowa. Member of Polish Academy of Sciences, director of its historical institute (1953-1968) and its Silesian historical institute (1977-1981). Rector of the Jagiellonian University from 1981 to 1987. Member of Polish Academy of Learning.

Author of over 380 publications. His interests were related to history of Poland (1569-1795) and history of Polish Jews.
