Jérémie Janot (b. October 11, 1977 in Valenciennes) is a French football (soccer) goalkeeper playing for the club of his youth, AS Saint-Étienne. He has remained loyal to the club throughout his entire career, including relegations. He set a record of 1534 minutes without allowing a goal at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard. He was voted "goalkeeper of the year" by L'Equipe after the 2006-07 season.
Janot is known for his hatred of Olympique Lyonnais (ASSE's traditional rivals) and thought about wearing an AC Milan kit during his match the weekend after Milan had knocked Lyon out of the UEFA Champions League.
He was considered one of the possibilities to replace the injured Grégory Coupet for the French national team, but Teddy Richert and Ulrich Ramé were called up instead, to compete with Mickaël Landreau and Sebastien Frey. In addition, youngsters Hugo Lloris and Steve Mandanda have been called up to the national team ahead of Janot, making a call-up in the near future very unlikely.
[edit] Trivia
- Janot wore a full Spider-Man costume complete with his own name and kit number and club sponsors for a home match against FC Istres in 2005. He took off the mask before play began.[1]
- Janot is a big fan of Brazilian MMA fighter Wanderlei Silva; Janot showed that he is a real fan of the fighter by getting tattoos on his head and arms just like Silva.[2]
