Jérémie (Jeremi in Kréyòl) is the capital city of the department of Grand'Anse, in Haiti, with a population of about 31,000 (2003 census). It is located at 18°38′N, 74°7′W, and is almost isolated from the rest of the country. The Grande-Anse River flows near the city.

In 1964, during the Jérémie Vespers, 27 people[1] were massacred in Jérémie by the Haïtian army and the Tonton Macoutes.

Jérémie is also called the city of the poets because of the numerous writers, poets, and historians born there, such as Etzer Vilaire and Emile Roumer.

The author Alexandre Dumas, père's father, General Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, was born in Jérémie.
