Izhorsky Zavod

Izhorsky Zavod is a major manufacturing plant located in Kolpino, Saint Petersburg.
The factory was build in 1722 by request of Peter I and received its name from the nearby Izhora River. In 1908, the factory received its own flag. It was making parts for the Russian Navy at the time.
Now the company is a primarily heavy industry factory. It specializes in engineering, production, sales and maintenance of equipment and machines for the nuclear power, oil and gas, and mining industries, and also in the production of special steels and equipment for other industries. In 1999, the company became part of Objedinennye Mashinostroitelnye Zavody (OMZ).
OMZ employs some 16,500 people. A recent Expert magazine ranking placed OMZ among Russia’s 400 largest companies. This factory is an important part of the St. Petersburg economy.
