[edit] History
Izegrim was founded by Jeroen Wegchelaer and Joep van Leeuwen in 1996, some time after the doom/death metal band Solstice disbanded. At first it started out as a melodic doom/death-metal band, and the style slowly shifted with every line-up change. With the album Guidelines for Genocide they adopted their current brand of thrash metal.
[edit] Definition
Izegrim's most remarkable feature is its line-up with two deathgrunting women in front, something not commonly seen in metal music. Also stylewise Izegrim is not fully representative for the thrash-metal style. Its songs are a rather slow-paced mixture of thrash metal, death metal, doom metal and stoner metal.
The lyrics are mainly written by their drummer, Joep van Leeuwen. They are sarcastic, sometimes even humorous, and somewhat comparable to Sacred Reich lyrics. In the past it has been suggested by some that Izegrim is a politically active band, taking stances varying from nazism to communism. Although the link with totalitarian philosophies seems rather obvious at first glance, they themselves claim that it is rather inspired by current state of world affairs than already outdated ideologies.
