Iyad Jamal Al-Din

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Iyad Jamal Al-Din (in Arabic : إياد جمال الدين) is an Iraqi minister of parliament. A secularist, he advocates the separation of church and state. He is quoted as saying:

We are like a bird born in a cage — America broke the cage open, but the bird does not know how to fly.

He has also survived four assassination attempts which he attributes to Islamic extremists in Iraq who oppose his pro-western and secular views but not Al-Queda who he states "do not miss". In an interview on Al-Arabiya television discussing the problem of Islamic extremism he stated "Bad implementation of the religion makes people averse to religion as a whole."
