The title began on January 15, 2005 at New England Championship Wrestling's Snowbrawl[1]. Until June 17, 2005, the title was merged with the NWA Midwest Women's Championship and known as the NWA Midwest/IWA Mid-South Women's Championship [2][3].

On 2005-06-17 at It's Clobberin' Time in Midlothian, Illinois[7], Ed Chuman, NWA Midwest promoter, declares that the title change on June 11 is invalid due to MsChif's defense of the title not being sanctioned by NWA Midwest, as the title was jointly controlled. He then returns the title to MsChif after Knuckles loses to Rain by disqualification in a match for the NWA Midwest title later in the same event. The two titles then split into separate entities as IWA Mid-South promoter Ian Rotten recognized Knuckles as champion with her win over MsChif.
