Ivor Stanley Watkins

Ivor Stanley Watkins was an Anglican Bishop who served in two posts[1] between 1946 and his death in October, 1960. Born in 1896 he was educated at Hereford Cathedral School and Trinity Hall, Cambridge and ordained in 1924[2]. Following a Curacy in Bedminster he rose steadily in the Church hierarchy being successively Vicar of St Gregory’s Horsfield, Rural Dean then Archdeacon of Bristol before elevation to the Diocese’s Suffragan Bishopric . After a decade at Malmesbury he was translated to Guildford where “in a short time he won the hearts and minds of both clergy and laity by his active and diligent pastoral ministry[3].
