[edit] Your edits to lolcat

Thank you for your contribution, but we are trying to write an encyclopedia here, so please keep your edits factual and neutral. Our readers are looking for serious articles and will not find joke edits amusing. Remember, millions of people read Wikipedia, so we have to take what we do here seriously. If you'd like to experiment with editing, use the Sandbox to get started. Thank you. --Longing.... 11:02, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

And for reference, yes, I did just say to keep an article on lolcats serious. --Longing.... 11:02, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Citing patents?

{{helpme}}

How do I cite a patent?

In other words: I know how to use Template:Citation to cite books, periodicals or webpages, but I cannot find any information about how to cite U.S. patents; I've looked in WP:CIT but haven't found anything.

Thanks, Ivansanchez 16:23, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

The relevant specific template is {{cite patent}}; click on that link for information about how to use it. --ais523 16:49, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE:

Perdona por tardar en contestar, me había ido de vacaciones. No tengo coordenadas de los mapas, lo siento, pero aún así me puedes decir cómo buscarlas y te las puedo intentar dar.
Un Saludo. Javitomad Madrid (...tell me...) 13:11, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Nada, hombre, no te preocupes.
Ivansanchez 15:47, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Vale por mí bien, ADELANTE! :·D

[edit] speedy/prod

thanks for your work in spotting very weak articles like the one on Customer interaction optimization. However, an article like that really doesnt fit in speedy-no context, which is only for very short articles that don't give enough information to tell what they're about. The best way to deal with this is to use WP:PROD, which gets rid of the article in 5 days if nobody contests it or fixes it. I've therefore declined to delete it by speedy, and changed it to prod. What you do now, is watchlist the article, and if the prod is removed without improving the content, then send it to WP:AFD. (If it does get improved, that's even better). [edit] GODSEND (Team)

Thanks for the hints regarding recommending the GODSEND (Team) article for deletion. Good to know I don't have to add any other changes aside from just the recommendation.

Originally, I'd assumed that by adding NPOV and NEEDSCITATION tokens, I could clue the original user into writing something less likley to be deleted and/or why they shouldn't bother writing an encyclopedia page for their gamer clan.

Thanks again. -Krenath 18:32, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trevor Foster (drummer)

Hi, I noticed you tagged this with db-repost, could you please tell me where the deletion discussion is? If it was just speedy deleted last time, it isn't right to tag it with this tag, as far as I understand? Greswik 09:52, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Hm, I though that db-repost could be used for speedy deleted stuff. My fault. I'll use the same db-band template next time. Ivansanchez 09:57, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Umptious

Hi -

I believe you deleted my page on flex nibs and threatened to ban me for spamming...?

1. You didn't say what you thought was spamming in the article. I suspect I might have have put links in to the only two nibmeisters in the world who can still make flex nibs, and I remember there was a discussion of the very flex nib pens that can still be bought. ***It is impossible to have a worthwhile discussion of a subject like this with out such references. Fountain pen articles are full of them.***

2. Who did you think I was spamming on behalf of? The one pen I can remember mentioning is a model that is almost impossible to buy outside of Japan - the maker doesn't promote it at all; the other references were to vintage pens and one man craftsmen businesses (whose existence is of huge interest to people concerned with this topic). Which entity do you think was paying for spam to be placed? Why was it giving equal prominence to its rivals?

3. Next, why didn't you delete what you think maybe spam, ***not an entire article***, leaving a discussion to explain your reasoning. Deleting painstakingly written information saying that flex nibs were more common in the 30's than later as "spam" is inane - do you really think that the 1930's marketing council is spamming wikipedia?

4. If you're not an admin, why do you leave threatening messages that make you sound like one?

No one likes spam. But references to a business do not automatically make an article spam as you seem to assume. In future I suggest you forgo the warm glow of a random delete and open an intelligent discussion instead - next time with some manners rather than immediate accusations. If you won't take the time to do this, then leave the subject alone for those who are willing to do the job properly. For one thing I want to know what in my article was perceived by you as spam and you didn't even trouble to tell me that or how to contact you - although the page you left your message showed I was a new user.

Ok:

Apparently the "problem" was that I had linked to a site belonging to a nibeister named several times. Ivan then decided that he could therefore delete articles at will and without further thought, as there is a wiki guideline saying such links may be a spamming attempt. However Binder's site is the only one I'm aware of on the entire net that discusses flex nibs in detail - which isn't surprising, as he seems to be one of only two living people who can still make them - you can't reference certain things on fountain pen construction without referencing Binder's site. What Ivan should have done was USE THE DISCUSSION PAGE. As wiki gudelines say: "The best way to resolve a dispute is to avoid it in the first place.

Be respectful to others and their points of view. This means primarily: Do not simply revert changes in a dispute. When someone makes an edit you consider biased or inaccurate, improve the edit, rather than reverting it"

And a delete is much more drastic than an edit.

Ivan - I believe that you tried to excuse your action on the grounds "there wasn't much information there"? Oh? What a flex nib is common knowledge in your house? You knew that they became less common after the 30's? That about the only modern flex pen is a Falcon? Really? Next time, with me or someone else: discuss.

Human being are the best spam filters because they can use their intelligence and communication skills. Congratulations on wasting enough of my time so that I could have written half a dozen articles - but I had to do this, because they will probably ALL have to reference Binder's site, and there's no point writing stuff that you're going to delete. [edit] Intimacy seekers

Hi. I removed your speedy tag, as I can see no attack material in the article. --Dweller 11:00, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

It's referring to fictional characters. --Dweller 11:04, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
No, the article is about a topic, which can be illustrated by a fictional occurrence. --Dweller 11:07, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
OK... and I've slapped on a merge template for good measure. --Dweller 11:29, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sewell & Marbury

I removed the CSD tag you placed on this article, and reverted to a previous version - the version you saw was certainly nonsense, but it looks like that was down to vandalism of the page ;) You may want to take the page to WP:AFD, but hopefully you agree it's not a CSD candidate any more! All the best, EyeSereneTALK 17:52, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

No probs - it was, as you say, a long way down in the history. I only thought to check because I remembered the name from the films! EyeSereneTALK 18:00, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nissin Foods

You indicated on 24 August 2007 on the Nissin Foods article, that "This article or section is written like an advertisement". Could you let me know what sentence or parts you feel are most egregious? I would like to clean-up any problems. They are one of the largest, if not the largest, noodle seller in the world. I am attempting to find third-party business sources for their production/sales data. Any suggestions are welcome. --Bejnar 18:26, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

  • In using the Template:advert, good practice suggests that, like all clean-up templates, the inserter should: "Add a new item to the talk page explaining the type and extent of clean-up required so editors will know what to address, and when to remove this tag." See Template:Cleanup. --Bejnar 18:39, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] cmyos

Ah, yes. I had made some adjustments to improve the quality (parts that I thought sounded wordy), but I made the edits, signed in and removed the tag on cmyos. Can you help me improve the article? I saw it as one of the few sites listed on mashable as an online operating system, and wikipedia recognizes web content as notable. It is because there are only a few online OSs on the web and cmyos is one of the few that is free, has unlimited storage, and is open to registration (most online OSs are restricted to invite only) that I think this site is notable. -- Maxeboy 04:15, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Microtargeting

I undid your copyright violation tag to Microtargeting. The linked article was clearly a cached version from Wikipedia, not vice versa. - ChrisKennedy(talk) 22:30, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Valle de los caidos Your edit

Hi, I´ve undone your last edit on the Valle de los caidos page as you have deleted the last 3 or 4 sections of the article. Controvesy, resources quoted, external links etc... I don´t know if it is due to the coding you added in the middle of your staircase contribution or not but can you please take a look. Cheers! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.50.54.18 (talk) 10:02, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

[edit] JSP Weaver page

I've cleaned up the content. I will later also upload some benchmark results comparing with several JSP compilers. It doesn't copy the site anymore and describes cleanly what Weaver does. Ekabanov 12:39, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] No Cannes Do

I saw your db-nonsense tag on this article -- I recognize the material as being a plot description of an episode of the TV show Entourage, but the author hasn't identified it as such. I'll leave him/her a note and perhaps this article can be better prepared. Accounting4Taste 17:58, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of bestselling drugs

Thanks for noticing my contribution (List of bestselling drugs so quickly. The data in the table is all in the public domain. MedAdNews did collate all this into a table for an article, but the data in Wikipedia appears only in part of one table, itself a small part of the MedAdNews article. If MedAdNews claim copyright, then I think this qualifies as "fair use". GJeffery 18:15, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Attacking Anxiety and Depression

This is a program that has been around for more than two decades. Wikipedia allows for pages about notable books. The Attacking Anxiety and Depression includes a book along with other materials, and it is quite notable. Please don't jump to the conclusion that this is "advertising." I am the one who wrote the article, and I am not in any way affiliated with the producer of the program. I earn no money from this. Please do a Google search, or some other search, to see how notable this topic is. Thank you. -- Andrew Parodi 09:29, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Butterflies and Wheels

Three minutes after this article's creation you tag it? After two edits? While I'm still working on it? Check out the sources from the Independent which called it "one of the most useful philosophical resources on the web". Why don't you write an article and come back in half an hour when I've finished? Nick mallory 10:14, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Scope creep

It's pretty useless as a redirect, but that certainly saves it the trouble of going through the whole process. Happy editing! J Milburn 11:31, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Careful!

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When using certain templates on talk pages, as you did to User talk:Enfluerage, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:uw-test1}} instead of {{uw-test1}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. Thank you.

[edit] Regarding edits on my talk page...

Sorry, but what do you mean? What was the point? J Milburn 21:00, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I see, got you! Thanks for letting me know! J Milburn 21:03, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
Useful nonetheless. Thanks. J Milburn 21:04, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Sir why have u used a tag on Lokmat? I will add sources for my claims. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Stateofart (talkcontribs) 10:27, August 30, 2007 (UTC) Thank you. [edit] speedy

I remind you that speedy for notability is only when someone has no good-faith notability asserted. An article claiming multiple awards and honorary degrees is a clear assertion of notability, even if unsourced. DGG (talk) 11:15, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 58.185.47.84

Hi Ivan. You reported the above IP address to WP:AIV for removing a speedy deletion tag from Eureka Private Equity‎. I am not sure how this constitutes vandalism; the correct response in future if someone (an anonymous editor or otherwise) removes a speedy deletion tag is to nominate the article for deletion via AFD. Neil  10:02, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me! Removing AFD tags is unacceptable, yes. But not speedy ones - removing them is a pretty clear sign that you do not agree with speedy deletion, for whatever reason. As speedy deletion is to only be used in uncontentious deletions, it is best to then nominate the article for AFD, rather than revert warrring and / or warning the editor. I am also worried that you went straight to the "last warning" template without using any of the nicer ones. Please read WP:BITE; we need to be nice to all new editors (even anonymous ones!) Best, Neil  10:26, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your inputs. I've edited the content, can you please give your views again so that the content is not deleted, and is as per the wikipedia writing rules. ForedIndia 10:29, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] INVOLVE (UK National Advisory group)

This article has been deleted a number of times and I recently received a warning. However I am merely trying to move an article that was previously published on the wikipedia 'Involve' page. I created a disambiguation page to cover the range of organisations called Involve and tried to move the information about INVOLVE (National Avisory Group) to a new page. If you check the history of the Involve page you will see that the basic information about the national advisory group was uploaded by another user (Gillwren) on the 13 December 2006. Now it may be that this information is subject to copyright or blatant advertising (the reasons listed for removal) but I didn't write it. All I was trying to do was to ensure that I didn't simply write over someone else's work in creating a disambiguation page. It may be worth getting back to Gillwren and suggesting that she/he rewrite the section on INVOLVE? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drapetomaniac (talkcontribs) 07:59, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Possible copyright violation on Market segment

Thank you for tagging Market segment as a possible copyright violation. If you look at http://www.excel-business-solutions.com/clustering.htm you will see that everything after the opening section they acknowledge as having come FROM Wikipedia, not the other way around. I removed the opening section which is a verbatim match for their text. However, it seems that that section was slowly created over a period of several years, and not just copy-paste ripped off from somewhere. For example, see these edits in Sept. 2006, which changed the paragraph to close to its current form. I think it's more likely than not that Excel Business Solutions simply copied the latest version of the article and added their sales pitch. —dgiestc 19:12, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Wired cd cover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Wired cd cover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 03:20, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New page patrolling

Hi. Thank you for spending you time patrolling newly created pages. I noticed that you tagged the article Harris porter for deletion only 2 minutes after it was created. When patrolling the newly created pages, please check the pages from the bottom of the page, to give the article editor enough time to build the article up. Try having a read of WP:NPP. Thankyou. Azazyel (talk) 09:52, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

For that matter, I removed the conflict of interest tag from the Helsinki Times article. It is true that there is one. The article is being monitored, and stuff that looked like promotional material has been rewritten, so I don't think that there coi presents an actual problem at this time. If you have any specific complaints about the article as a result of the conflict, drop me a line. Cheers, Kizor 20:24, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Ordnance survey oscm0302.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Ordnance survey oscm0302.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:13, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
