Ivan Baranka (born May 19, 1985 in Ilava, Slovakia) is a Slovak defenceman with the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL. He was drafted 50th overall in 2003 by the New York Rangers.
Baranka signed his first pro contract with the Rangers in September, 2004, and has been playing with their farm team for two full seasons. Prior to that he was a member of the Everett Silvertips in the WHL for two seasons.
Baranka is from the same city as former Ranger Marcel Hossa.
Baranka played his first NHL game on November 21, 2007,in which he recoreded his first point on an assist of Colton Orr's goal
The Rangers have confirmed that Ivan Baranka accepted an offer from Spartak Moscow, but that the Rangers will retain his rights.[1]
