Iteris is a technology company that focuses on the development and application of technologies to reduce traffic congestion, minimize the environmental impact of traffic congestion and improve the safety of surface transportation systems. Iteris offers a range of Intelligent Transportation Systems and driver safety solutions combining outdoor image processing, traffic engineering and information technology. Iteris is headquartered in Santa Ana, California with offices throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia.

In 1993, Iteris’ engineers used video image processing to introduce Vantage, Iteris’ first commercial vehicle detection product to address the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) market. In the late 1990s, Iteris acquired the transportation systems business of Rockwell International Corp., Meyer, Mohaddes Associates, a Traffic Engineering and ITS Consulting firm based in Los Angeles, and certain assets of the Washington D.C.-based consulting firm of Viggen Corporation.

At the same time, Iteris developed and went into production with the world’s first commercially available Lane Departure Warning (LDW) System which was soon deployed on commercial trucks in Europe and the U.S. Within four years, the first passenger cars to offer LDW became available in the U.S.

Iteris applies video detection to a range of traffic management applications, including both intersection control and highway management systems. Image processing technology is used in the Vantage product line to detect vehicle presence, count, speed, occupancy and other traffic data used in traffic management systems. This gives traffic managers a toolkit for mitigating roadway congestion by modifying traffic signal timing or detecting incidents quickly.

Vantage video detection cameras have been deployed by hundreds of agencies in 49 U.S. states, and in Asia, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. The product is currently sold through a network of over 20 independent dealers in North America, Asia, Europe, and South America.

Iteris developed the AutoVue Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system to address the nation’s leading cause of highway fatalities – unintended lane changes due to drowsy, fatigued or distracted drivers.

Iteris provides engineering consulting services in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic engineering and transportation planning. Capabilities include traffic operations, traffic control systems, Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS), Advanced Public Transit Systems (APTS), Commercial Vehicle Operations (CVO) and Rural Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

Iteris has experience in multi-modal transportation planning, design and implementation initiatives for both public and private sector clients. Iteris’ Transportation Planning capabilities cover a range of activities including travel demand forecasting, traffic impact analysis, parking studies, transit studies and goods movement analysis.
