[edit] Italian Language Instruction
Students of La Scuola Appia Vecchia engage in a mix of classroom and leisure time activities designed to develop their Italian language skills and appreciation of Italian culture. Formal classroom instruction focuses on the grammatical underpinnings of spoken Italian. Exercises in spoken Italian and comprehension are stressed over text translation or essay composition. Small class sizes (typically four students or less) are a feature of the school.
[edit] Cultural Activities
Integral to the program of La Scuola Appia Vecchia are the afternoon excursions to cultural venues in and around Rome-Velletri. Following classroom instruction, students visit such attractions as the seaside resorts of Anzio and Nettuno, Hadrian's Villa, Roman catacombs, and Castel Gandolfo. Professoressa Valentini accompanies students on each excursion and provides cultural and historical context.
[edit] Other Educational Opportunities
Interested students may avail themselves of Italian cooking lessons. The school holds periodic seminars exploring Italian cinema.
[edit] Friends of Scuola Appia Vecchia
Former students of La Scuola Appia Vecchia have formed Friends of Scuola Appia Vecchia, an association to help further the mission of the school. Participation in the association is open to any past student of La Scuola Appia Vecchia.
