Is it just me, or is this getting so huge as to be unwieldy? Should we give it some subcategories? And if so, what? Two ideas that suggest themselves to me are by modern region of birth and/or by city of birth and/or by century. Neddyseagoon - talk 16:36, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Subcategories for the big cities (Florence, Venice, etc.) are a must, particularly for cardinals which pre-date Italian unification and were citizens of their respective Republic or Duchy. Within those, we could organize by century if need be. Since unificaton, we can have 19th, 20th, and 21st century categories, although unfortunately people seem to live their lives without any respect to being neatly categorized within one century.
