[edit] Albert Hammond song

"It Never Rains in Southern California", written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood, is the title of a song first released by singer/songwriter Albert Hammond in 1972. Hammond's version peaked at #5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 that year. It strangely failed to chart in Hammond's native UK despite considerable airplay.

The song concerns the struggles of a British wannabe to make it in the US and may be semi-autobiographical. The bitter lyrics of the verses are set in ironic contrast to the bright optimism of the chorus.

[edit] Tony! Toni! Toné! Song

Contrary to popular belief, the similarly titled Tony! Toni! Toné! hit "It Never Rains (in Southern California)" is not a cover of the Albert Hammond song, but a group original which peaked at Number One on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and #34 on the Hot 100 in 1990.
