"It's a Heartache" is a pop-country song that was recorded by Juice Newton, Bonnie Tyler and Ronnie Spector (of the Ronettes) later that same year. Tyler had the biggest hit with the song (see chart positions below), peaking at #3 in the U.S., though Newton's version went Gold in Mexico.

Tyler's version was recorded right after she had surgery for nodule removal. In the middle of healing, she accidentally yelled out in frustration, causing the distinctive rasp in her voice that she is best known for today.

Badfinger drummer Mike Gibbins played drums on this single.

Since its initial surgence, the song has been covered numerous times, including versions by Dave & Sugar (released the song on their album Tear Time in 1978), Lorrie Morgan (in 1992), Trick Pony (2005), and Rod Stewart (2006). Trick Pony's version was released as a single from their album R.I.D.E., and peaked at #22 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
