"It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" is a song from the 1975 motion picture Cooley High. The song features music and production by Cooley High's musical director, Motown Records songwriter Freddie Perren, with lyrics by Christine Yarian. Motown artist G.C. Cameron recorded the vocal for the song, and a single version of "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" peaked at number 35 on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart.
Sixteen years later, another Motown act, Boyz II Men recorded an a cappella cover version of "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye" for their debut album, Cooleyhighharmony (named in honor of Cooley High). Produced by Dallas Austin, Boyz II Men's version of the song spent one week at number-one on the US R&B chart in 1991 and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was also featured in the movie "Lethal Weapon 3" during Darryl's funeral.
