Israel in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Israel’s entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 was Together We Are One by Eddie Butler, who had previously represented Israel in the 1999 European Song Contest. Israel automatically qualified for the final due to Shiri Maimon's fourth place in 2005, but with only four points in the final, Israel finished in second to last place, meaning that Israel would have to compete in the semi-finals of the 2007 Eurovision song contest.

The contest for the privilege to represent Israel (called "Kdam" in Hebrew) took place on 15 March 2006. The voting was divided up as follows: televoting (50%), 4 regional juries: Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv, Haifa and Be'er Sheva (10% each) and the studio audience (10%). Eddie Butler's song Ze Hazman won with 99 points. The song was written by Eddie Butler, Osnat Zabag & Galit Burg and composed by Eddie Butler, and was given a new version with more English lyrics (and title) for performing at the Eurovision.
