Israel Democracy Institute

The Israel Democracy Institute (Hebrew: המכון הישראלי לדמוקרטיה‎) has been established in 1991 as a center for policy studies. Its main objective is to maintain democratic values the Israeli statehood has been founded on. In the last 50 years of an independency, Israel has lived through several wars and has been subject to social, security and economic pressures. These elements have compelled the founders of the institute to bring about innovative programs which would help Israeli government maintain democratic nature of the state. The institute is an independent non-partisan research institute which serves as a bridge between the politicians, government and independent professional partners who examine new potential ideas and ways to help keep and develop democratic values in Israel. Another objective of the institute is involving and encouraging public in political, social and economic debate.

The Israel Democracy Institute is currently chaired by its founder, Dr. Arye Carmon.
