[edit] Ethnicity

Wasn't he an ethnic Uyghur? --Spring01 01:49 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, it appears that he was. In an interview, АПН / Брежнев был настоящий развратник, he said, "I am not Uyghur or Russian or Kazakh, nobody is. Ethnic identity (national identity) existed in the past, but now it is eliminated (whipped away?)." Later on in that same interview he is asked about his appointment as First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Kazakh SSR. I am not entirely sure of the translation of that, but here goes: "I of the people, rose to the first secretary of the Private (serial?) agriculturist. The young were not offended. On the contrary, am I pleased to withdraw from the obligations of the Secretary because, in fact, the Kazakhs were hurt, as the only Uighur became the first secretary of the Communist Party of the Kazakh SSR? No, I am not." The interview goes on, and I am more sure of the translation. Question: "А как же принцип "каждому по способностям…"?- So what about the principle of "to each according to his ability ..."?" Among the Kazakhs, too, there were quite capable people. It could have been one of them, but somehow [the choice] stopped on me." So in conclusion, I believe that he was an ethnic Uyghur, by his own admission. --Bejnar 22:46, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
