[edit] A great man indeed.
After reading his biography, The Reluctant Politician by Ooi Kee Beng, I've found my hero at last. For a long time, I thought he was just another politician. In Malaysia, you can see roads nemed after him, hell, we even have a housing estate named after him! Nobody knew him! It's true that people don't remember him anymore.
Myself being born in 1978, 5 years after his death, I never knew his contributions towards the nation. He was a remarkable man, who would give anything or shall I say he gave everything for his country. You don't get that kind of people anymore. Nowadays, almost everyone is selfish or selfcentered. Truly, he saved Malaysia. Not once or twice but, numerous times.
I highly recommend that every Malaysian should read the book. It helps you to understand the true meaning of the word 'merdeka'. If he were alive today, he would have been 'Malaysian of the Year' for 34 years in a row!
Thank you, Tun. Because of you, I am a different person today. You are my inspiration. You have changed my perspective of Malaysia forever. Now, we all know the sacrifices which you made for us. We owe you a lot, don't we? Thank you for giving up everything else for us especially when you paid with your life... You died for us... 'Al-Fatihah'.

Shouldn't his grandfather be a convert to islam rather than a "revert"? I smell something here. Gangeticus 15:48, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
