Ismail K. Poonawala is a professor of Arabic at the UCLA department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures (NELC) of 32 years. As of Fall quarter 2006, Professor Poonawala is teaching English sections of Introduction to Islam, The Shi'a in Islamic History, and Contemporary Islamic Thought. Seminars in Islamic Text is offered to Arabic speakers. Fiat Lux titles Islam and the West, and the Islamic Threat: Is it real? are open to the general student body.
