[edit] Marking articles for speedy deletion
Please review WP:CSD before tagging articles with {{db-reason}}. As you can see, advertising is NOT a criterion; WP:PROD might be a better process in those cases. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 21:57, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Will do, thanks. --IslaySolomon 22:00, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
But congratulations, you caught an absolutely yucky yucky spammer right in their tracks :-) Now I am trying to clear up some of the mess they have left in their wake - promotional link spamming in external links sections of otherwise useful articles, daft promotional articles and even more ridiculous spam categories. :-( And what is worse they can not be banned for this, just warned! In future, if you find one of these spammers, could you have a look at WP:SPAM? There are various spam warning messages you can place on a user's talk page, starting with number 1 then working up in severity until they get blocked. The earlier we can get first warning in, the faster we can get the spamming to stop. It's a real mess to clean up unfortunately! TheGrappler 05:41, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks I appreciate that, I was going on WP:IAR in that case, for an OBVIOUS advertisement. Hopefully the admins won't wait the 5 days to remove it. Wildthing61476 17:26, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your Userpage
I see that Seungwoo marked your page as a CSD. I've removed the tags, as your page was listed in CSD. I have placed a warning on Seungwoo's talk page for vandalism of your user page, and if you have any further problems with this user or any other users in future please do contact me. --Wisden17 22:55, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, that's very good of you. --IslaySolomon 22:58, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Arsen Productions
You marked Arsen Productions as a copyvio, which was entirely correct. I wanted to let you know that I rewrote the article to a neutral point of view and so that it would no longer be a copyvio. Please take a look at Arsen Productions and make any further changes that you consider appropriate. --TruthbringerToronto 16:37, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
- Brilliant, thanks. --IslaySolomon 16:39, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] spelling mistake
Thanks for letting me know about the mistake i made, it has now been changed. --Joshuarooney2006 09:06, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] The Unfunny Truth About Scientology
Two things, although I don't agree that that article should have space on wiki, the prod will undoubtedly not make it full term. That brings me to the second thing; YTMND which is where that is hosted is not a private website, but actually a very large forum (which is why a {{prod}} won't make it full term.) ViridaeTalk 02:31, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- And you suggesting that YTMND is so large that other members will shout down the proposed deletion out of sympathy? The article makes no claims of notability whatsoever. Basically it says "Look, we've made a site about scientology. It appears on google. Scientologists have sued other sites, perhaps they'll sue ours." By that logic I could critise scientology on my website and then be imediately entitled to write a wikipedia article about it. If there were a speedy delete tag covering non-notable websites, I would have used it. --IslaySolomon 02:41, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- If you have a look at the guidlines covering WP:PROD if a proposed deletion is contested, by any editor (including the articles main contributor) the tag can not be re-added. You may then choose to take it to WP:AFD - where I am sure it will probobly be deleted. However my original point was that its is probobly futile to add a {{prod}} tag to an article related to something as large as YTMND because of its large userbase - it is highly likely that the prod will be removed. ViridaeTalk 03:18, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, you were right, the {{prod}} was removed almost immediately. I've followed the procedure from WP:AFD like you suggested. --IslaySolomon 04:55, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Skippy The Fridge
Are you seriously suggesting that "They started out as a covers/interpretations band but developed in the early 90's into one of the finest SKA bands of all time" is an assertion of notability? It sounds a lot more like an opinion to me. --IslaySolomon 23:13, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
- That's correct. CSD A7 only applies when no assertion of notability is made in the article. "[O]ne of the finest ska bands of all time" is an assertion of notability. Cheers, JYolkowski // talk 00:24, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
But "one of the finest ska bands of all time" is totally subjective. It's an opinion of notability. An assertion of notability would consist of facts, for example: "Ska Monthly magazine named Skippy The Fridge one of their all-time most influential ska bands" or "STF's first single reached number 5 in the charts". Moreover, Wikipedia:Notability (music) contains guidelines on what makes a music ensemble notable and the article made no mention of Skippy meeting any of them. --IslaySolomon 00:37, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Quoting from A7, it states: "...does not assert the importance or significance of its subject. If the assertion is disputed or controversial, it should be taken to AFD instead." (emphasis mine). For the purpose of this criterion, it doesn't matter whether the assertion is true or false, just whether it has been made. If you believe the assertion to be untrue or unverifiable, you should take it to AFD (which has already been done in this case). Thanks, JYolkowski // talk 00:42, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, and WP:MUSIC has no bearing on CSDs, just at AfD. JYolkowski // talk 00:43, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Fair enough. That does make sense. My only problem with this is that an article that reads:
- "X are a rock band formed by three teenaged friends. They rehearse occasionally in a garage. They once played at a battle of the bands at their high school and lost. They have a myspace site with over 20 friends. They are the most significant rock act to have ever lived."
would have to debated in AfD.
Anyhow, I did put Skippy up for AfD and it was deleted almost immediately, so I suppose the system works. I'll be more discerning in which delete tag I use in the future. Thanks for explaining that for me. --IslaySolomon 01:00, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
-
- Pardon me for wandering in here, but AFAIAC, a page like that could still be speedied under nonsense, in spite of what our pushy uncle says. Too bad there isn't a tag for very, very stupid. :) --DarkAudit 19:56, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A pushy uncle
I've also been slapped by UncleG for what he deems an 'abuse' of the word 'nonsense'. It seems to be a particular pet peeve of his. --DarkAudit 19:52, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Admin issue in AfD
I noticed you had a problem with an admin at this AfD. If you have a problem with an admin it is important to take it up with them in a civil manor. If you feel you must take the matter further you may want to post it at WP:AN. But please avoid mentioning 'bad' users in unrelated areas of wikipedia though please. Thanks.--Andeh 19:51, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- Apologies. I definately went too far there. However it is true that the admin in question has been extremely curt to users who've labeled articles of that level of coherence "patent nonsense" (see above). --IslaySolomon 20:07, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Eccles College
I wonder if you would revist the article and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eccles College. I have removed the vandalism in the article and you may or may not wish to revise your opinion. I am passing this message to all who gave an opinion prior to my removal of the vandalism, both keep and delete. Fiddle Faddle 15:35, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Don't delete my page, you DOPE
When I am an administrator, I WILL BLOCK YOU FOR BEING SUCH A DOPE. My article was NIFTY GOOD SALAD. --MarkusFarkus 02:15, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Patrick Collins (Marxist)
Is my page, Patrick Collins (Marxist), satisfactory upon further review? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ptcollins (talk • contribs) 08:44, 14 October 2006
- My adding the speedy deletion tag to this article will bring it to the attention of an administrator who will consider any comments left on the talk page, before making the final decision as to whether or not to delete the article. -- IslaySolomon 08:50, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy Deletion of Devon Braithwaite
Thanks for clarification of this. Matthuxtable 12:26, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy Deletion for two articles
I'm not quite sure why the two articles I wrote on the Westchester Jazz Orchestra, and a member, Joey Berkley got deleted. Can you please clarify?
-Dwslassls
- I'm afraid I can't remember the articles in question. If they were speedy deleted I can only point you to the speedy deletion criteria for musicians and musical ensembles: "an article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble that does not assert the importance or significance of the subject". If you're writting articles on musicians, I'd also make sure that the subjects meet WP:MUSIC, the notability guidelines, and that the articles assert this. -- IslaySolomon | talk 13:18, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Enviga
Islay,
I believe I have messed up the formatting you did on the Enviga page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enviga Is it possible you could try and correct it ?
Many thanks
Pete —Preceding unsigned comment added by Petegranger (talk • contribs) 23:06, 22 October 2006
- The formatting problem was caused by a failure to properly close a wikilink within the code for the infobox. You had used one ], where you should have used two ]]s. -- IslaySolomon | talk 00:18, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Islay - its easy when you know how....but its still very confusing to me. I suppose I will get the hang of it one day

[edit] Access Granted
Aloha Islay,
When I came across the existing Access Granted page, which "could" be seen as an advertising reference to the Access Granted BET show, I felt that this was a very incomplete page on Access Granted references.
Initially, I put information about another "Access Granted" that exists, trying to be as detailed as possible in doing so. Not for advertisement, but for information.
Additionally, I had already started looking up additional references to "Access Granted" throughout the web, including its use in movies, games, and other pop-culture phenomena. I was hoping to actually make a complete and useful reference page, with both links to organizations and other uses of the "Access Granted" name.
Please return the page to my edited status, and I will happily remove any components that seem like advertising, including the link references for the Access Granted Network. I will also add plenty of additional information and research about the words "Access Granted," so the snub status will be gone from this page once and for all.
Thank you for helping to provide a truly 'Open Source' forum of information.

[edit] Re: Help
Ahh, I see. While anybody can add a protection template, the only people actually able to protect pages are admins -- you can read up on page protection if you like. :) We just blocked this guy's entire IP range for three hours; hopefully they're bored by then. If not, let me know, and I'll look into protecting some pages (you can also post to requests for page protection. Happy editing! Luna Santin 05:53, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm afraid there was so much vandalising going on I just added the tag without reading up on it. Anyway, thanks for your help, much appreciated. -- IslaySolomon | talk 05:59, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Twister MP3
No, i cannot live in a world without my article!!! Help ME! I dont want to lose my article. CoolChris 09:25, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm afraid the notability requirements for software WP:SOFTWARE are quite strict. I don't think this piece of software deserves an article of its own. However, there's no reason why you couldn't expand upon it, and in particular its adware delivery role, in WhenU. Just remember that your contributions need to be verified. -- IslaySolomon | talk 13:24, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Okey, i was just overreacting just a bit in the post. I'll live! Wipe the Article!

[edit] Hamedog/Phantom
Please move to User:Hamedog/Phantom--HamedogTalk|@ 13:46, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm afraid the page was deleted by User:Jimfbleak before I had a chance to move it. -- IslaySolomon | talk 13:50, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Can you un-delete then move? It was a tribute to the memories of yesterday.--HamedogTalk|@ 13:51, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, only an admin can undelete a page. Hopefully User:Jimfbleak can sort this. -- IslaySolomon | talk 13:59, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Twister Mp3 (Continue from your post)
OK, how do i expand it, i have done everything i can! There is nothing else to write about. If you think it is not good enough.... blank it. Blank it NOW!

[edit] RE 'THE LIST'
Why flag that for speedy deletion? It's an objective report on something not listed on here, I was in the process of using a layout template and inserting references and images etc. It's not spam and there was no links to participate in the group. I think, however, its a group that people would be interested to hear about.Abdul nadgers 17:58, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
- No, it was an unverified piece of original research. The article did not assert the significance of its subject whatsoever. As it happens, I did not nominate this article for speedy deletion, I nominated it for proposed deletion. An administrator must have decided to speedy delete it.
- Before contributing further, I would direct you to some of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. A good place to start is "What Wikipedia is not". -- IslaySolomon | talk 18:17, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
