[edit] Misnamed article?

This article does not describe the Islamic Civilization during 14th-17th centuries. A more approporate title would be 'A diverse collection of European attitudes to and descriptions of muslim civilization and influence during the European renaissance, and some related paragraphs'.

Being unstructured as it is I would like to have this article deleted. The usable paragraphs can be moved. Pukkie (talk) 10:01, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it needs either a new name and mission (Islam in Europe during Renaissance?) and restructuring or it needs to be merged to other articles. Zocky | picture popups 12:40, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Dubious generalisations

The final section "Muslim women" references only one document - Nabil Matar, "The Representation of Muslim Women in Renaissance England." I don't know how much of this contains direct quotes from that document as I can only find a website which requires payment to view it. In any case this article contains some highly controversial and unverifiable (not to mention sexist) claims. For example:

- "In appearances, Englishmen believed that Muslim women were prettier than English women were." (Unverifiable)

- "European women also began leaving home to become male-like figures in society." (Unclear)

- "During the Renaissance, English women disrespected their husbands because they were free to do what they wanted, which society believed led to a moral deterioration." (Unverifiable and ridiculous)

- "Women rebelled against male religious hierarchy and began to replace men as preachers and pastors." (This certainly didn't happen!)
