Isle of Wight gasification facility

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Isle of Wight gasification facility is a municipal waste treatment plant that has commenced construction in southern England.[1] The facility has been funded as part of Defra's New Technologies Demonstrator Programme and is one of the first gasification systems employed for the combustion of refuse derived fuel, originating from municipal waste, to operate in the United Kingdom. The plant will be operated by Biffa plc and utilises the Energos technology. The system will combust an estimated 30,000 tonnes of refuse-derived fuel per year and will cost £8 million to commission. It will be sited at Forest Road, Newport.
