The Isle of Wight Zoo also known as the I.O.W Tiger and Lemur sanctuary, is housed inside a fort on the coastline of Sandown, it is now home to biggest collection of tigers in the United Kingdom.

It was originally known as the Sandown Zoo, and was established in the 1950s. It fell into disrepair and disrepute in the 1970s. In 1976 it was taken over by a private owner and over the following years rebuilt as an now famous sanctuary for big cats and primates.

The sanctuary is currently home to over 20 Tigers, 3 African lions and 2 Jaguars

Recently three new enclosures have opened 2 of which are for the Tigers and one for the lions, all are themed on the animals natural habitat with ponds, plants and structures. Another enclosure is also planned to open in 2009.

The sanctuary is home to a wide range of primates, including the ring-tailed, black and white ruffed, black and mongoose lemurs

There are also Spider monkeys, a family group of capuchins.

Housed inside a pitch black building is a collections of snakes, lizards and spiders.

The zoo is has been the main filming location for the ITV Meridian television programme entitled "Tiger Island".
