The Isle Royale Light is also well known as the Menagerie Island Light. This lighthouse is located on the southern shore of Isle Royale which is a National Park with very severe restrictions on tourists (what you bring in, you take back out).

Because of the restrictions on tourist traffic to Isle Royale, the best way to see this light is on an excursion. One such example is Keewenau Excursions out of Houghton Michigan.

This portion of Lake Superior has very severe storms. Readers may note that the building in the photo has steel shutters - that's not protection from vandals, but rather protection from water damage.[1]

A very comprehensive history of this light is documented by Terry Pepper [2] and is not reproduced here.
