IMDb profile

Island of Fire (aka Island on Fire / The Prisoner) (traditional Chinese: 火燒島) is a 1990 film directed by Chu Yin-Ping. It was shot in Taiwan and the Philippines.[1] After appearing together in Killer Meteors in 1976, Jimmy Wang Yu came to Jackie Chan's aid when the then young actor sought his help in settling a dispute with veteran director, Lo Wei. Chan repaid the favour by playing roles in Wang's films, Fantasy Mission Force (1982) and Island of Fire.

As with both of those earlier films, recent DVD and VHS releases market Island of Fire as a Jackie Chan movie, displaying his image on the cover as though he was the lead actor. In fact Chan only appears in a supporting role, with Tony Leung Ka-Fai as the main character. The film also features Sammo Hung.

The tagline for this film is When you're looking for the living dead you start your search in hell!

There are three different versions of this film. There is a 93min Hong Kong version, a 96min US version and a 125min Taiwanese version which focuses more on character development and plot detail.

Island of Fire has also been released with the following alternative titles:

  • The Prisoner (Germany)
  • Jackie Chan is the Prisoner (USA)
  • When Dragons Meet
