This article is part of the Island Records discography.
In 1985 Island Records released 15 compilation albums dedicated to reggae, presenting twelve of its best (selling) reggae artists and three reggae styles "dj", "lovers" and "rockers" on one disc each. The albums were compiled by Trevor Wyatt, the covers were illustrated by various artists on the basis of paintings and contain extensive liner notes. The series was offered for a "special price", and was intended to create new interest in reggae artists. While compiled in the UK the LPs (and MCs) were released in several countries and later re-issued in a variety of forms, mainly on CD within the Island Masters series (starting at the end of 1980s), the Reggae Refreshers series (mid 1990s), an Island Reggae Greats Collection series on a Spectrum label (ca. 1997), but also with the catalogue numbers of the original LP series.
In America the series was released within the Mango label series. Some of the titles were also released in different covers.

The series appeared again 1997 on the Spectrum label by Universal. The label released mainly low price compilation albums. The covers have been reworked. The following album was added to the series without taking care of the standards of cover design and liner notes.
