Island Cruises is the brand name of a cruise line operated by Sunshine Cruises Limited, a joint venture between Royal Caribbean International and TUI Travel PLC.[1][2][3] The company operates in Europe and South America, aiming its products primarily at markets in the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Argentina.[4] It was founded in 2001 by Royal Caribbean International and First Choice Holidays PLC (now TUI Travel PLC), and began operations in 2002.[4][5]

Initially, Island Cruises had planned to operate in Europe during the summer season (Northern Hemisphere), and out of California during the winter. Before the first winter season began however, the decision was made to change the winter schedule to 3- and 4-night cruises out of Brazil.[6]

In Europe, Island Cruises targets the British family market, offering casual "totally relaxed" cruising. In South America, the company targets a younger audience.[4]

Currently, the line operates two cruise ships, Island Escape and Island Star. Island Cruises' ships are managed by V-Ships, a part of the V-Group of shipping and transportation support service companies.[2][3]
