Island "Borok" (Russian: Остров “Борок”) - is Natural Monument (Protected areas of Ulyanovsk Oblast)

[edit] Basic special features

Almost entire territory is covered with forest. The large colony of gray herons here is located (403 pairs of birds). Nests are arranged on the trees. Some of them dry from the dung, their branches break off. Soil is extremely rich in nitrogen; therefore in the large numbers nettle and celandine grow. Also they are encountered: black hawk, cheglok, sea-eagle, vyakhir, coast swallow, the eastern bluebird of zavirushka, finch, seagull, krachki. From the reptiles: quick lizard. Are noticed the tracks of a stay of raccoon dog. Felling forest is forbidden in the territory, is limited the visit of the places by fishermen and by hunters, observation of the biocenosis and performing of scientific work is permitted. Researching and scientific work is not conducing.

On island "Borok" one of the grey herons largest a colony (about 400 pairs) is located. See eagles belokhvosts, pair black kites and cheglokov, black-headed merry fellows live. See eagle-belokhvost and black-headed merry fellow are brought in the Red book of Russia.
