- "Islamology" is also used as a synonym of Islamic studies.
Ali Shariati's Islamology: The Basic Design for a School of Thought and Action is one of his most famous works and regards Islamic ideology.
It contains the following sections:

The essay itself is based on important philosophies and historical recordings. This is a manifest against theocracy and a claim for Islam without hierarchy. That is why Islamic school of Haghani in the religious city of Qhom was so furious about this work. The school was founded by those who are in the leadership positions in Iran today
There is a vast body of evidences and clues pointing to the fact that he was one of the first victims of the power struggle inside the Islamic movement in Iran. That struggle still claims lives. He was hastily mummified few hours after his death in a response given by English authorities at the hospital in London he died in and that to the request of small group of Khomeini devotees who claimed mummifying would be an Islamic tradition. It is not. He was himself against it referring to that as a tradition only dear at tyrants courts. Then a Jumbo jet was flown urgently from Damascus to London to snatch the body out of reach for her relatives and forensic people. He and his followers were poor and not afforded such extravagancies. His follower organized in a group named Forghan were later brutally repressed in The Islamic republic in Iran and his works were banned from 1980 until 1995. He preached an Islam without priests.
