'UBAID MUSHTAQ FROM SCHOOL OF BUSINESS STUDIES WRITES:'

]In the present day of modern world and with the advent of 21st century education has got an immense increase both at national as well as international level. Education has simply become a lifeline for all nations to compete in the fast running world of globalization and in order to attain development and prosperity for their nation.

With the 15 years of violence in Kashmir which is still on our young generation has fraught with alienation and anger, hatered, crises of identity, inequality and social argument. The only way to put our young blood out of this is to create such an institution where teachers and students try to excel on one another in a fascinating spot of exchanging ideas and which becomes a mental gymnasium and intellectual ground for dialouge.Creation of ISLMAIC UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY is based on these realities. The Islamic university of science and technology serves as "garden of dialogue" not only between the teachers and students but among the all sections of society locally, globally and regionally.IUST is an open, interactive place for every student, teacher, administrator and facilitator where everyone feels a sense of ownership. The theme of the university is "dialogic" which is from the core of our culture and is perhaps one of reasons for growing popularity of university both regionally as well as globally. The university is intending to carry out serious research programmers, special lectures, seminars, conferences on every subject.

The Islamic University of Science and Technology was promulgated by an act of Jammu and Kashmir State Legislative Assembly in November 2005. Islamic University is located 30 km away from the summer capital of the state of J&K. The picturesque campus has the Himalayan mountain range to one side of it and Jehlum River to the other. The location of the university is one among the best campus locations in India.IUST has developed itself into an university of excellence in formal and technical education under the dynamic and intellectual guidance of its Vice Chancellor Prof Siddiq Wahid, who is a Harvard University return (world's top ranking university) with plenty of exposure and robust intellectual capacity.

The Chancellor of the university is the Chief Minister, ex officio, of the State, and its Board is the Board of Directors of the J&K Muslim Wakf Board. The Executive Council, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, is the executive authority of the university. The university has been set up as a centre for higher learning for the people of the Jammu and Kashmir State and its neighboring regions. The strong science and technology curriculum will be complemented by a School of Humanities & Social Sciences. For while paying need to a job-oriented curriculum, the university firmly believes that a significant awareness of the humanities will help future generations understand social trends and human aspirations as they enter the workforce. And it will equip them to contribute towards bettering the conditions of their communities and understanding the value of plurality in society. The university focuses on career development and overall personality enhancement and tries to ensure education for leadership.

The university has begun two centers in the Humanities; the Ibn Khaldun Center for Comparative Civilizations and the Rinchen Shah Centre for West Himalayan Cultures. Both will facilitate research for scholars and impart a core curriculum in the humanities. Through this balance, the university aims to provide the right academic environment for both students (who are seeking a career) and scholars (who are looking to further their understanding of humanity and the world). This focus on career development and overall personality enhancement is yet another way in which the university tries to ensure education for leadership.

The Islamic university of science and technology has three main schools.

1: SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY Under this school of technology there are three undergraduate programmers and one post graduate programme. These courses are B-Tech (Computers), B-Tech (Electronic and Communications), BSC (Food Technology) and Masters in Computer Applications (MCA). 2: SCHOOL OF BUSINESS STUDIES There is one post graduate and one under graduate programme running under this school.
