Ishu Patel

Ishu Patel (born April 20, 1942) is an award-winning animator who is one of the "key filmmakers" of the National Film Board of Canada. [1], [2]. Patel is currently teaching animation and storytelling to animation students in India. [3]

Patel was born in Jalsan, a town near Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India. He received his B.F.A. from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara. During this time, he met and worked with Henri Cartier-Bresson. He later pursued graduate studies with the National Institute of Design.

Patel joined the National Film Board of Canada in 1970 and was there until the late 1990s [4]. He is particularly known for his 1977 film Bead Game which was nominated for an Academy Award [5], [6].

Patel has taught at the University of Hawaii, the National Institute of Design, and in the Division of Animation and Digital Arts a department in the USC School of Cinema-Television. He also taught in independent programs in the former Yugoslavia, Korea, and Japan.
