Ishkashim District is one of the 29 districts of Badakhshan Province in eastern Afghanistan. The capital is the city of Ishkashim (also: Eshkashem, Ashkāsham). The people of the region are called Ishkashimi people and speak their own language. Total population of the district is approximately 11,000 residents.
Ishkashim District lies along the international border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, where a settlement with the same name stands[1] The border is currently only open for humanitarian deliveries.
