[edit] History

The university was founded in 1974 and admitted its first students in 1977. It was founded as Aryamehr University of Technology Isfahan branch and was renamed after the Islamic Revolution of Iran. Plans were to make the institution the largest university in the middle east that weren't completed because of political changes in the country.

The university was designed and planned directly based on models off of MIT and University of Illinois at Chicago.[1]

[edit] Academics

Today the university offers degrees in B.S., M.Sc., and PhD levels in several branches of Science and Engineering.

The University has maintained its life-long reputation for the quality of education and many of its graduates are working in academic as well as industrial environments around the world.

It's basically believed that the university presents some of the best engineering programs nation-wide especially in the fields of Mechanical, Electrical and Materials Engineering. Many of the country's brightest talents choose IUT among their first choices in National University Entrance Exams.

The university runs two famous research centers: Information &Communication Technology Institute and Subsea R & D center were the first national radar project and design and implementation of first Iranian Submarine were carried out.
