Please help

Hi. I need help with an article that I have edited. I have posted an image on the entry for Tamsin Greig, but I am not sure about the copyright, as this is the first time I have posted an image. I copied the image from a magazine article in the Sunday Times on the 19th March 2006, Culture Section, entitled, "The eyebrows have it." I only used part of the image, is it possible for me to do that? I have named the person who took the photograph (Neil Wilder). If the copyright is not comfirmed, then the image will be deleted on the 26th March. The details are on the discussion page. Please help me!

Hi! The only way to use an image from a newspaper is to claim Fair use - and I don't think you can modify the image as you have done. Fair use could only be used if this was the only picture of Tamsin Greig available - however that's not the case. I recommend you allow the picture to be deleted, and track down another photo - perhaps email her and ask for a publicity shot, which could by Fair use as Wikipedia:Publicity_photos explains.--Commander Keane 06:44, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Can you please run text though a spelling checker before posting it. Green Wing had loads of spelling mistakes. It doesn't look very professional. Jooler 08:53, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

WORD

Word is a bitch.

There's no spelling checker in Wikipedia. There are some online ones, but Word is probably easier. You have to change the default language to "English (U.K.)". You can do this from the tools menu. Jooler 06:56, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Tamsin_Greig.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Tamsin_Greig.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

I would like it to be known that I do not accept Barnstars. If you wish to thank me, then please leave a message on my talk page.

Thank you.

I would also like to thank Tim! for honouring me. I would like to highlight that he gave me his Barnstar before I displayed the no-Barnstar link. I should have created the link before hand, but I was not aware of the Barnstar's existance before then.

Hey there, ISD. Yes I have - I signed it as soon as I heard about it through the GW wiki page. I'd like nothing more than for a third series to be commisioned. Tphi 22:44, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

User templates

Just a reminder. When making user templates, remember to use <noinclude>[[Category:User templates]]</noinclude> instead of using plain [[Category:User templates]]. This prevents the template from adding your userpage to the category and saves others the trouble of tracking down and fixing it. – Someguy0830 (Talk | contribs) 19:34, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Edit summaries

This is going to sound really silly and picky, but it has confused me quite a few times - and possibly other people too.

When you edit a section of an article, a bit automatically appears in the summary surrounded by /* and */. This shows the name of the section being edited, and puts in a link to this section. If you look at edit histories etc, this is where the grey text with the arrows come from. Could you please not put your own summary in this part, as i keep thinking theres a section named as this. Just pop in your own summary after the */.

Hope that made sense. Don't worry if you didnt know, the formatting might have seemed a bit confusing. Thanks! -- jeffthejiff 11:00, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Tamsin Greig - Beatrice.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Tamsin Greig - Beatrice.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey 09:05, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Kenworthy

Mr. Kenworthy (you know the one!) has contacted me asking removal of your comment on his userpage, noting that it's archived on google and, he says "somewhat embarassing". The content will take some time to filter out of Google's caches and the note is currently stored in his Talk archive (tagged noinclude so googlebots don't get it again) instead of deleted.

Don't worry, he's not upset, but I think from the tone of his email that he'd prefer that people didn't actively associate his entertainment works with his Wikipedia account, since the attention might distract him from his editing work. We thank you in advance for your discretion, it's greatly appreciated!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

~Kylu (u|t) 04:13, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Re: your question on my talk page:
Nah, I've already taken care of it, you're all set. The reason I notified you is so you know why the comment was removed...I mean, I'd be a little puzzled if a comment of mine was removed without justification, wouldn't you? If you actually did a search, I think you'd be surprised how many notable Wikipedians there are on this place! What's even more surprising is how many aren't on that list...I've helped more than a couple with article editing and autobiography concerns before.
Thank you for your work on Wikipedia, ISD!

Newshounds

I cannot actually pinpoint any copyedit example for you as these are always different. Though if you look at Copy editing and Wikipedia:How to copy-edit you might be able to find a good definition of what copyediting a text is. What I meant for the paragraph in question was that it is really tough to understand the phrase's meanings so in order to alleviate the problem, the best solution is to re-write or modify substantially the structure of these lines thus clarifying the meaning for the reader. For the rest of the editing that I requested, it is necessary as per an encyclopedic article need that the prose shows verbs in every phrases (or almost). Lincher 15:01, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Still on the paragraph, what is the parents' hidden motive. Could we maybe get situated in the episodes or in the year that the events took place. Like, i.e., in 1999 or during the first season or for some part of the third season or throughout the whole serie. Lincher 15:40, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

What you just did clarified the parent thing though throughout the Scenario section you mention dates when these things arrived (and they are dates in our world representing what happened in different episodes) though some places it is tough to pinpoint when and at what time in the episodes some events took place. It doesn't matter if you spoil some details in the plot as long as the readers know where and when the events actually took place it will be great. Lincher 16:02, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Userboxes

Why did you remove the monty python templates? AFAIK, Concensus was to keep.

Second, also AFAIK, religion-based userboxes, such as User Genesius of Rome should be moved to userspace. - Jc37 14:14, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

If you check the history, you will see that before I edited the page, there was only the one Monty Python userbox in existance. The others had already been deleted, and all that existed were the links to the dead templates. The one user box that still exists was moved to the sketch shows section, and has been edited so that you can included your own caption, so you can enter which ever quote you want. ISD 18:18, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
So someone deleted them against the concensus? ok. And thank you for the info, I hadn't seen that : )
And I just noticed that you asked User:Rfrisbie for help to move User Genesius of Rome to userspace. I'll be happy to help. If you also want it in Rfrisbie's userspace, I'm sure he would also be happy to help, or feel free to ask me : )
- Jc37 01:39, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Ok, moved to {{User:ISD/Userboxes/User Genesius of Rome}} and fixed all redirects. - Jc37 01:47, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

Wikington Crescent

Just a heads up to let you know I've prodded it for deletion; although it's a nice spin on the existing pathfinding games like Wikirace, and I enjoy a good game of Regency Rules 1957 as much as the next man, it shouldn't have a proper Wikipedia article about it unless it's massively notable. I don't know how much luck you'd have recreating it as Wikipedia:Wikington Crescent. --McGeddon 11:36, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Tamsin Greig - Beatrice.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Tamsin Greig - Beatrice.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. It is a small thing, but I thought I'd point it out. Enjoy the wiki. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 16:33, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

50 Greatest Comedy Sketches

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article 50 Greatest Comedy Sketches, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:50 Greatest Comedy Sketches. You may remove the deletion notice, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria.. Actually, I didn't add the prod, but you get the idea. QuiteUnusual 09:24, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm currently considering making a wikiproject called Wikipedia:WikiProject Tyne and Wear and I'm just wondering if you would be interested in joining if and when It's created as I noticed from a user category you live in County Durham. It would be all about improving and creating wikipedia articles relating to Tyne and Wear. If you have any questions, comments please tell me on my talk page and if you know any other users who maybe interested in joining please feel free to tell them as it will need a few members in order to make it run smoothly. I will also be willing to create the project page and templates etc if there are enough active members. Please leave your name here if you are interested. Could you also please tell me whether you are interested or not on my talk page - You can take as-long as you require to decide! Thanks. TellyaddictEditor review! 16:16, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:The Chained Wolf.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:The Chained Wolf.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use.

Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Unspecified source for Image:Dr. Angela Hunter Green Wing Series 1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Dr. Angela Hunter Green Wing Series 1.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:08, 20 February 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Bob 18:08, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Proposal: UK radio and radio stations task force

Hi there.

I notice you are part of the radio Wikiproject. I am discussing a revised idea of starting a task force, part of WikiProject Radio which covers the radio industry, as well as the radio stations of the United Kingdom (in contrast to the original idea to just cover UK radio stations). Discussion on the proposal is here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Radio Stations#New proposal: UK radio and radio stations task force. Look forward to hearing your views and potential interest in a new task force. Thank you. --tgheretford (talk) 09:40, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Further to discussion, the task force is now live at Wikipedia:WikiProject Radio/UK Radio (shortcut: WP:RADIO/UK). --tgheretford (talk) 13:32, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:Tamsin Greig.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Tamsin Greig.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Quentin X 13:55, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Tamsin Greig.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Tamsin Greig.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Fair use rationale for Image:8_Out_of_10_Cats_-_DVD.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:8_Out_of_10_Cats_-_DVD.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 15:01, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Image:Yurika_Misumaru_-_Nadesico.jpg

I have tagged Image:Yurika_Misumaru_-_Nadesico.jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 08:52, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Many Questions

A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Many Questions, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
