Isabel Whitney

Muralist and painter Isabel Lydia Whitney was born in 1878 in Brooklyn, New York and traveled widely including Taos, New Mexico in the 1920s, and as a student in Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy and Russia. She also studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and took lessons from Arthur Wesley Dow, Hayley Lever, and Howard Pyle.
Isobel died in 1962 and left her estate to Dawn Langley Simmons, with whom she lived in her 40-room mansion on West Tenth Street, New York.
