Isaac Mekler
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Isaac Mekler was the leader of the Association of Jews in Peru, as of December 2005.
In November 2005, he called Ollanta Humala "a wolf dressed in sheep’s clothing", raising concerns in the country’s small Jewish community about Humala's nationalist and anti-Semitic rhetoric. Mekler claimed that Humala was hiding his anti-Semitism as part of his electoral strategy and that Humala and his brother utilized anti-Semitic language and showed a "deep-rooted hatred toward Jews" at the start of their campaign.
However, about one month after those comments, he retracted himself and became affiliated with the Nationalist Party of Ollanta Humala and won a seat in Congress running for the Nationalist-backed Union for Peru alliance, representing the Constitutional Province of Callao. He is serving for the period 2006-2011.
