Isaac, Itzhak or Yitzhak (Hebrew: יִצְחָק, Standard Yiẓḥaq Tiberian Yiṣḥāq ; Arabic: إسحٰق, ʾIsḥāq ; "he will laugh") is one of the patriarchs, whose story is told in the Biblical book of Genesis. (See also Binding of Isaac for the narrative of Abraham's near-sacrifice of Isaac).
Isaac is a given name, popular in both Christian and Jewish societies, generally in reference to the above. Izzy is also a short-form of the name Isaac. Famous people named "Isaac" include:
