Irwell Vale railway station is a heritage railway station preserved as part of the East Lancashire Railway. It serves the small village of Irwell Vale in Lancashire.

[edit] History

The station was formerly known as "Irwell Vale Halt", and as a railway halt was only used when a passenger requested to alight or join the train at the station. The station ceased operating as part of British Railways in 1972 when the Bury-Rawtenstall route was closed. The station reopened under the ELR in 1991.

[edit] Station Information

The station has its own parking facilities and next to the station is a level crossing providing access to houses on the nearby Hardsough Road. The crossing features the original warning sign, listing a telephone number with an area code prior to the PhONE Day introduction of the "01" prefix.
