[edit] About me
I'm a student from london studying a Politics degree course at the University of Portsmouth. I'm an obsessive music fan, mainly progressive/alternate rock and trip-hop, and this occupies about 40% of my life. I'm also a caffeine addict (coke is my poison of choice) and a guitar/recording obsessive (although i've had no luck with forming any kind of band). My favorite band is Pure Reason Revolution, although I consider The Sky Moves Sideways to be the greatest album of all time.
Interests outside Wikipedia include Politics, Psychology (which i've also studied) and Philosophy, specifically Existentialism.
I have a mixed and wonderful medical history, being autistic, bipolar and suffering from ulcerative colitis. I am constantly sarcastic and biting in real life, have to conciously think about body language reactions and go for extremes of emotion; i'll bend over backwards for friends, and take disproportionate pleasure in tormenting enemies. I try not to let this spill over into wikipedia; 90% of vandals are ill-informed and inexperienced rather than deliberately trying to screw it up.
[edit] Wikipedia
I spend most of my time on wikipedia patrolling new pages, either on the mainspace or new userpages, looking for inappropriate/non-notable material. Userpage patrol mainly involves checking it isnt advertisement/copyright infringing, or that people haven't been schmucks enough to put their personal information on. I've had to delete a couple of CV's in my time.
Despite my short contribution time, i've actually been here since may 2006 (hence the userbox) with a different account name.
When not patrolling newpages I alternate between user creation logs, uncategorised articles and AfD/MfD and occasional RFA's if I feel I can contribute. I'm also in the next few months planning to get more involved in editor review. For people who look at my contributions; Cat/Categorised means put into appropriate categories, i.e a band being put into "american metal bands" and "bands formed in 2003". "Recat" or similar is moving them, i.e from "uncategorised from april 2008" to "uncategorised musical groups". I'm trying to cut down on that as I realise it isn't that useful.
I'm a deletionist; if I feel something isn't worthwhile, I will nominate it to be removed. However, I recognise that only the current article may be worthy of removal; the concept or topic as a whole may be worthy of inclusion. I've created a few pages in my time, notably:
Apprentice of the Universe
The Intention Craft (single)
The Bright Ambassadors of Morning
Cautionary Tales for the Brave
Victorious Cupid
Gmelin database
Oryzomyini
Amphinectomys
Megalomys
Noronhomys
Vespucci's rodent
I am harsh in some ways and not in others. I have a very low tolerance for vandals, and for "my mate justins band, its really good they played at my school". Mouthing off at me due to me nominating your page will not get me to support you, but several editors seem to think that this somehow works. New editors who contribute good material can expect any kind of support that they need, but I have a very low level of idiot tolerance.
[edit] My Beliefs
Most can be seen in the userboxes. I support the Liberal Democrat party due to their opinions on electoral and parliamentary reform, although other viewpoints of mine are conservative in nature. I believe in the freedom of speech, but also in the freedom of governments to bung terrorist fund-raisers into a little box and send them back from whence they came. I am pro-choice (with the belief of "no uterus, no opinion") and support homosexual and any other minority rights. I'd also like to see the Uk withdraw from the EU and instead establish individual trade links with the countries involved.
I used to have a userbox dealing with my beliefs in relation to religion and god which was relatively controversial and at least in part caused me to fail (and withdraw, under advice from a friendly user) an RfA. Many people interpreted it (saying "please keep your imaginary friends to yourself") as religion-bashing, although in actual fact i'd included it on the grounds that A) I found it humourous and B)It relates my belief that, while i have no problem with people being religious, I do have a problem with them spouting off about it.
