[edit] Disclaimer

I may not have this quite right. I picked it up while reading about the origins of Yiddish theater in * Israil Bercovici's O sută de ani de teatru evriesc în România ("One hundred years of Yiddish/Jewish theater in Romania"), 2nd Romanian-language edition, revised and augmented by Constantin Măciucă. Editura Integral (an imprint of Editurile Universala), Bucharest (1998). ISBN 9739827225, page 47. I had some difficulty following the relevant passage, since he was clearly writing for an audience familiar with the tradition.

I also gather from a quick web search that Vicleimul may also be a related term.

I'd be very appreciative if someone from Romania can improve this. -- Jmabel | Talk 08:24, Jan 18, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Which Herod?

The article says:

centered around the figure of Herod

Which Herod is that? Gdr 21:22, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

  • I presume either Herod the Great or Herod Antipas, but I'm not sure. Can someone from Romania, or otherwise knowledgable about this tradition, weigh in? -- Jmabel | Talk 05:06, July 12, 2005 (UTC)
Herod the Great, since it has to do with Jesus' birth and the Massacre of the Innocents. See: http://biblioteca.euroweb.ro/adamescu/a13.htm
După aceea Irod le spune cunoscutele versuri despre tăierea celor 14 000 de prunci:
Toţi prunci, mărunţei copii
De doi ani şi mai în jos
Împreună cu Hristos.
