Ironwood High School is a PUSD public high school in Glendale, Arizona at the intersection of 59th Avenue and Sweetwater with upwards of 2,200 students.[2] The school's official colors are red and grey and the mascot is an eagle. The school was established in 1986 and has grown considerably since then. Since 2004, it has offered the IB Diploma Programme to its junior and senior year students, with a Pre-IB program for its freshman and sophomore year students. The school consistently performs well on state and college entrance exams, and has been labeled as an "excelling" school by the Arizona Department of Education. The present student-to-teacher ratio at the school is about 20:1.

Combine the energy of competitive sporting events, the talents of performing arts presentations, and the leadership of strong academic experiences to capture a glimpse of the student body of Ironwood High School. A member of the Peoria Unified School District, Ironwood first opened its doors in 1986. Approximately 2000 students share the 40 acre campus situated in a densely populated area in Glendale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix. Committed to improving academic achievement for all students, the administrators, teachers, and support staff set high goals and standards for their students and themselves. With strong community support, Ironwood promotes a team effort for helping students develop the skills and concepts needed to become successful life-long learners. Our school community is enhanced by the Renaissance program which is a partnership between the school and businesses to reward students who strive for high academic achievement and citizenship.[3]

Ironwood High School has an accomplished arts program. From the Ironwood Marching Eagles to the drama program, Ironwood is known for its arts.

Ironwood is home to five different bands:
[edit] Ironwood Marching Eagles
Marching band is only offered during the first semester. This group marches during half time at all Varsity football games (away and home) and attends marching festivals through out the semester. Rehearsal begins prior to the start of school and all members attend band camp where marching basics are learned along with music that will be played through out the season. During the school year rehearsals are held outside and evening rehearsals, generally held on Tuesday nights, are required.
[edit] Jazz Band
Jazz band is offered year round and also has 2-3 concerts per semester. It is required that you play saxophone, trombone, trumpet, drum set, guitar, piano, or bass. As of right now there is no audition process for membership, but that could change. There is an audition for placement within the group.

This class is only offered during the second semester. Concerts occur 2-3 times during the semester. There will be an audition process, but only for placement not membership.

Orchestra is offered year round and includes all stringed instruments. There are concerts outside of the school day 2-3 times a semester. There is no audition process required for orchestra.
[edit] Intermediate Band
Intermediate band is offered year round and has 2-3 concerts per semester. This group generally focuses on an individual's need and more one on one attention is given to the students. Small ensemble groups are often formed and concerts are generaly done in an informal setting.

Drama is responsible for sponsoring the fall play, spring musical and the annual talent show. The students participate in back stage activities to run each production as well performing in the shows. The club also provides social activities for students involved in the shows.

- Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) - Ironwood Future Business Leaders of America (IHS FBLA) is one of the largest chapters in the state of Arizona. IHS-FBLA is made up of freshman through senior students. IHS-FBLA competes in Arizona State University FBLA Business Skills Day, Regional, State, and Nationals. For the past few years IHS FBLA has taken the Sweepstakes Award, the award given to the school that wins the most awards total, at Arizona State University FBLA Business Skills Day.
- Academy of Finance (AOF)- The Academy of Finance is a National Academy Foundation academy of finance, accounting, and business classes.
- Academy of Information Technology (AOIT)- The Academy of Information Technology is a National Academy Foundation academy of computer- and technology-based classes.
- Drama Club/Thespians - The Drama Club is responsible for sponsoring the fall play, spring musical and the annual talent show. The students participate in back stage activities to run each production as well performing in the shows. The club also provides social activities for students involved in the shows.
- Drill Club- We are a club that encourages friendship in a diverse group of people. We dance ,step, teach others and learn from everyone around us. This next year we hope to be a service club as well as a performance group.
- SkillsUSA- SkillsUSA is a national organization partnering with students, teachers and industry helping to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA focuses on developing employability skills while a student is in a CTE class.
- Spanish Honor Society- Our club promotes the Latin American culture and Spanish language both on campus and in the surrounding community. Our activities provide an opportunity for Spanish honors students to serve others and participate in cultural exchanges.
- Youth Alive- Youth Alive is an on-campus Christian club. The purpose of the club is to facilitate association among like-minded people and so members can learn about Christian beliefs and views. The club includes weekly giveaways, live music, fun activities, and student or guest speakers.
