Iron Door Saloon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Iron Door Saloon is a bar and restaurant in Groveland, California. Its proprietors claim it to be the oldest continuously operating bar or saloon in California.
The site is believed to be named for the iron fire doors with which the building is equipped. Jimmi Patti, Cowboy Dave, and Hippie Dan are among the musicians who liven up the bar on weekends.
A long standing tradition in the bar is to wrap a quarter with a thumb-tack and a dollar bill and to throw it upward to the ceiling. Those who succeed in the task are invited to an annual party in their honor.
