[edit] Portal redesign
I would encourage you to retain a news, current FAs, Things to do and collaboration sections, in order to encourage people to visit other pages and do some work. Cheers ww2censor 23:26, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- I took news out because it just wasn't being updated on the side of WikiNews. I'll add FAs again. --sony-youthpléigh 07:13, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] More views
You are ambitious to make changes daily; weekly would seem more reasonable IMHO. Daily will likely just be too much work for you and take you away from editing other articles, but it's is up to you. I would start slower and if you find you can do more add more frequent changes, rather than have to cut back from your aspired schedule.
I would be inclined to create a box around the Categories and Featured Articles; maybe both in one box if you can do it. I would also be inclined to box the intro too. Another feature you might add is a "New articles" area. A link to the WikiProject Ireland could possibly be unhidden because it takes some digging to find it, even though I know it exists. Remember that ease of use and finding stuff should be the ambition as it may not always be experienced users who may come here. Another useful link might be to the WikiProject Ireland's assessments statistics if you feel it is appropriate. Besides all that, a good job and great to see someone is prepared to do the work. Cheers & thanks ww2censor 23:49, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- I cleaned up the "Contributions" section so it points to the Wikiprojects more clearly. I think you're right about the "daily" ambition - it wasn't so hard, but yes, the cutting back, which would happen in time, (which I know I'm doing now!) would not be pleasant. Toning it down to twice a week. Will add "new articles area" - but that would need to be updated pretty regularly so I want to look into a workable system of doing that (any ideas for automation?)
- I could put the "Categories" and "Featured Articles" into a box but my idea was to box regularly updated stuff (both because it handy to edit and because it highlights it). Unboxed content is intended to signify "fixed" stuff (at least in the medium- to long-term). Boxing everything ends up in "box cruft". I'd pefer to 'frame' things naturally adn avoid that (though, adminttedly, depending on the relative length of the "Selected picture" and "Selected article" the natural framing of "Categories" and "Features articles" get's wanked out at the botttom).
- Thinking about adding the articles by quality statistic ... thinking .... :) --sony-youthpléigh 16:23, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Links to this portal
After the renaming of the by-county-categories, I have been adding category text to the categories, and also adding links to this portal, using {{portalpar}}. I hope that this may raise the profile of the portal. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 10:36, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- Cool! Thanks! --sony-youthpléigh 18:16, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Geography
Geography of Ireland has been nominated for a featured article review. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Please leave your comments and help us to return the article to featured quality. If concerns are not addressed during the review period, articles are moved onto the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article from featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. Reviewers' concerns are here.
