Irell & Manella LLP was founded in 1941 by lawyers Lawrence E. Irell (1912–2000) and Arthur Manella (1917–1997), and has grown to 220 lawyers. It currently has two locations in Southern California: Century City and Newport Beach. Irell is well known for both intellectual property litigation and general business litigation, and also for its high standards for hiring new attorneys.
Morgan Chu is one of Irell's most well-known attorneys. Former U.S. prosecutor John Hueston, well known for his successful prosecution of former Enron directors in the Trial of Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling, is a partner in Irell's Newport Beach office. The managing partner of the firm and the head of the securities litigation practice is David Siegel. Jane Shay Wald is the head of the trademark practice group.
