The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign is a pressure group based in Ireland to lobby the Irish and British Governments on behalf of the Palestinian cause.

Contents

[edit] Background

According to its website:

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign was set up in late 2001 by a group of established Irish human rights and community activists, academics and journalists who were deeply concerned with the current situation in the Occupied Territories. In partnership with Palestinians living in Ireland the IPSC was formed to provide a voice for Palestine in Ireland.

Although the Campaign was initially based in Dublin, it is currently expanding into a national organisation by virtue of its membership and by the affiliation of local branches (groups) that agree to adhere to the IPSC's Aims and Objectives. It is a non-party organisation run by volunteers.

[edit] Aims

  • To raise awareness in Ireland of the international plight of the Palestinian People.
  • To promote government involvement in finding a just solution for the Palestinian people, based on the full and unequivocal implementation of the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council resolutions regarding the right to self determination and respect for the human rights of the Palestinian people.
  • To develop and coordinate grass roots support for Palestinian rights among the media and concerned non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
  • To foster links between Palestinian and Irish institutions and organisations in the area of health, education and the global economy.
  • To promote Palestinian culture, including literature, music and arts in Ireland.
  • To bring real Palestinian voices to life in the media in order to contribute to informed reporting on aspects of the current Middle East conflict and the Israeli occupation.
  • To give support to the phrase 'liberate Palestine', which implies the end of the current occupation of Palestine by Israel.

[edit] Activities

  • Organizing public lectures and media appearances by visiting speakers from Palestine/Israel
  • Organizing boycott actions and pickets
  • Lobbying the Irish government
  • Supporting Palestinian refugees in Ireland
  • Arranging exchange visits between Palestine and Ireland
