Ira Glickstein, PhD is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Maryland University College, teaching an online graduate course in Systems Engineering. He also teaches a course in "Life, Intelligence and Human Imagination" at The Villages Lifelong Learning College, The Villages, FL.

His PhD (Binghamton University, 1996) is in System Science (Hierarchy Theory and Optimal Span). He has an MS in System Science (Binghamton University, 1989), held a Professional Engineering License (NY, 1964), and has a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering (City College of New York 1961).

He retired in 2001 from the IBM/Lockheed Martin facility in Owego, NY where he did research and development and new business engineering for advanced Avionics Systems. He is a co-inventor of several US Patents in the area of Artificial Intelligence. Prior to and since retirement as a Systems Engineer, he taught graduate and undergraduate Engineering courses at Binghamton University as well as a course in "Artificial Intelligence and Artificial Life" at Brandeis University Summer Odyssey.

As of 2005, he lives with his wife, Vi, in The Villages, a large active retirement community in Central Florida, where he is a member of several clubs including: Bicycle, Canoe/Kayak, and Philosophy. Vi is a retired Software Engineer who teaches an online graduate course in Software Engineering at the University of Maryland University College. They have three daughters and triplet granddaughters. They enjoy water aerobics, square dancing, and traveling together.
