[edit] Contradiction
This article says: 'Originally called the Iraqi Coastal Defense Force, its official name was changed on Jan. 12th 2005 to the Iraqi Navy.'
The Iraqi Coastal Defense Force article says: 'It is currently is being built up in place of the former Iraqi Navy as part of the effort to rebuild Iraqi military forces after the 2003 Invasion of Iraq.'
Which is it going to be? Joffeloff 21:25, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
"Many have previously served in the Iraqi navy, and most officers are graduates of the prestigious Basrah Naval College."
This indicates that the Iraqi Navy was replaced by the ICDF. -- CST 01:07, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- By which the press release means that they previously served in the pre-invasion Iraqi navy, which was dissolved in 2003 by the Coalition Provisional Authority along with all other Iraqi armed forces (army, air force, Republican Guard, Fedayeen Saddam and various militias). Note that this "Briefing on the Iraqi Coastal Defense Force" dates from before the change of name in January 2005. This proves that the change in 2005 was from the CDF to the Iraqi Navy. --GagHalfrunt 16:10, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] History?
This article seems a bit peculiar, in that it lacks any indication that Iraq had a navy prior to 2005. Billgordon1099 05:48, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
