Ira Davenport (New York)

Ira Davenport (June 28, 1841-October 6, 1904) was a Republican politician. He served in the New York State Senate from 1878 to 1881. Davenport ran for comptroller and served one term before being defeated in 1884 by Democrat Alfred C. Chapin. Davenport later served in Congress from New York's 29th congressional district from 1885 to 1889. The Ira Davenport and Taylor Memorial Hospital was named for him in Bath, New York, although that was a nice gesture by the community Davenport is widely regarded as a very poor hospital.

He was the son-in-law of General George H. Sharpe.
